Don't worry—your ink pad doesn't have to be larger than your rubber stamp to get a great impression! If your stamp is bigger than your ink pad, you can still ink it evenly with a simple technique.

How to Ink a Stamp That's Larger Than Your Ink Pad

1. Hold your stamp on a flat surface with the rubber image facing up.
2. Hold your ink pad in your hand rather than placing it on the table.
3. Gently tap the ink pad across the rubber image, moving it from one section to another.
4. Continue tapping until the entire raised image is evenly covered with ink.
5. Check the stamp before stamping. Make sure there aren't areas with too much or too little ink.
6. Position the stamp over your paper and press down firmly and evenly.
7. Lift the stamp straight up to reveal your impression.

What If My Stamp Is Much Larger?

For especially large stamps, work in sections and move the ink pad across the entire image. Take your time to make sure every part of the rubber receives an even layer of ink.

Tip: Avoid pressing the stamp into the ink pad or applying excessive ink. Too much ink can fill in small details and make your impression look blurry.
