Whether you're using a rubber stamp or clear stamp, a few simple techniques can make a big difference in the quality of your stamped impression. If your image is too light, blurry, uneven, or missing details, try these tips.

How to Ink a Rubber or Clear Stamp

Step 1: Place Your Stamp on a Flat Surface

Make sure your stamp is clean and dry, then set your stamp with the rubber image facing upward on a stable, flat surface. This makes it easier to apply the ink evenly.

Step 2: Apply the Ink

Apply a light, even layer of ink to the raised image.

For smaller stamps, gently tap the stamp onto the ink pad. For larger stamps, Hold the ink pad in your hand and gently tap the ink pad onto the rubber image, working across the entire image until it's evenly covered with ink.

Avoid pressing the stamp deeply into the ink pad. Too much ink can fill in fine details and result in a blurry impression.

Step 3: Stamp Your Image

Place your paper on a flat, stable surface. Position the inked stamp directly over your paper or other stamping surface. Press down firmly and evenly, applying consistent pressure across the entire stamp.

For larger stamps, make sure you apply enough pressure across the entire image so every part of the stamp makes contact with the paper.

Try not to rock or slide the stamp while pressing, as this can create smudges or double images.

Make sure there isn't anything underneath your paper that could cause it to shift or prevent the stamp from making even contact.

Step 4: Lift the Stamp

Lift the stamp straight up in one smooth motion. Allow the ink to dry before touching or moving the stamped material.

Step 5. Keep Your Stamps Clean

Dried ink, dust, paper fibers, and other debris can interfere with your impression. Clean your stamps regularly and make sure they're free of buildup before stamping.

This is especially important with clear stamps, where buildup can affect both the appearance of the stamp and the quality of your impression.

Getting the Best Impression

Too light? Try applying slightly more ink or increasing your stamping pressure.

Blurry or smudged? Try using less ink and lighter, more controlled pressure.

Missing parts of the image? Make sure you're stamping on a flat surface and applying even pressure across the entire stamp.

Unwanted lines or borders? Check for excess ink or debris around the edges of the stamp.
