Why Is My Self-Inking Stamp Making Uneven, Blurry, or Smudged Impressions?Updated 15 days ago
If parts of your stamped design are missing, blurry, or smudged, a few simple adjustments can help you achieve a clean, crisp impression.
How to Fix It:
Check Your Stamping Surface: Make sure you're stamping on a smooth, flat surface. Textured or uneven materials can prevent the stamp from making full contact, resulting in incomplete impressions.
Apply Even Pressure: Press straight down with steady, even pressure. Avoid tilting, rocking, or sliding the stamp, as this can cause blurry or smudged impressions. Release the stamp in one smooth motion.
Check Your Ink Pad: An unevenly inked or oversaturated ink pad can cause partial, blurry, or blotchy impressions. Make sure your ink pad is properly inked and evenly saturated.
Recently refilled your ink pad? Excess or unevenly distributed ink may be the cause. Allow at least 15 minutes after adding ink for it to absorb and distribute into the pad before testing your stamp again.
Helpful Tip: Standard self-inking stamp inks work best on smooth, absorbent paper. Glossy, coated, or nonporous surfaces may require specialty ink.
If You've Added Too Much Ink
Overfilling can cause dark, blurry, blotchy, or smudged impressions. In some cases, excess ink may leak from the stamp.
What to Do:
Stop Adding Ink: Avoid adding more ink until the problem is resolved.
Allow the Ink to Absorb: Give the ink time to distribute through the pad or reservoir. Follow the recommended waiting time for your specific stamp model.
Make Test Impressions: Try stamping on scrap paper to see whether the excess ink gradually clears.
For Self-Inking Stamps: If the pad remains oversaturated, carefully blot excess ink with clean, absorbent paper. A severely overfilled pad may need replacement.
Helpful Tip: Standard self-inking stamp inks work best on smooth, absorbent paper. Glossy, coated, or nonporous surfaces may require specialty ink.
